it is 10 am and I have not been on Tumblr even once

Things that I do when not infiniscrolling through the hellsite:

• Work on my mom's Christmas present (I'm defacing a copy of the Silmarillion for her amusement)
• hang out on Dreamwidth like a lot
• noodle at the Steve VS the Guggenheim idea (boogiewoogiebuglegal  yoU AND ICEWHISPER ARE REAL BASTARDS YOU KNOW THAT??)

so I think I maybe actually like being free of the blue purgatory? I want to try and spend less time on Tumblr, going forward. I don't think there's any website that quite matches it for social media experience -- it suited me really well, I adapted to it very quickly and I've gotten endless hours of amusement from it, BUT.

it was the vibrancy of the community I found there that worked for me. That community can be built -- or rebuilt -- anywhere.

Without Tumblr to distract me I actually updated my Dw profile and interest list, and uploaded my icon to Pf. And looked up more of my mutuals and people i follow on both sites, whoops

I really need to Investigate Pillowfort -- I've honestly been hoping that the OTW will pull something out of its ass last minute somehow, so I could save my money for that, but I don't know that that's realistic...

Oh man, I just gave away my last invite! They temporarily halted sending out account keys cause they just got overwhelmed with new users.I like what I've seen of it so far, it's just still in beta so it's kind of glitchy and slow sometimes. It's juuuust similar enough to both Tumblr's and Livejournal's UI to be familiar and yet...not. It takes some getting used to, for sure.

So much dreamwidth. Less scrolling, but more open tabs to actively type replies to. It makes me feel virtuous. haha.

Also I downloaded the week-long photoshop free trial because if we're going back to 2008 I'm gonna need to relearn how to make icons, I guess.

(though I'm sure I'll be back scrolling here are there. sometimes I just want memes and hot takes)

I too frequently run into the problem where I laugh at something and am facing with explaining 5 layers of the internet to my partner.

Like, a "slaps roof of car" meme that somehow incorporates the Ozymandias version of "i lik the bread" or any other equivalent k-hole.

I haven’t been on Tumblr since I logged out of the desktop app this morning. Which feels a bit weird but... I’ve seen a lot of fandom history and communities can always be rebuilt so long as someone leaves the light on. Here we are.

Since coming back to New York, they’ve done the MoMA, the Met, and the Whitney Museum of American Art. They’ve done the New York Historical Society, and of course the Brooklyn Museum. They paid twenty five goddamn dollars to visit the Tenement Museum, jesusfuck. And just last week, Bucky had his mind completely blown by the Natural History Museum.

When you're posting, in the rich text format there's a little grey guy/link button, next to the image button. I typed in your name, then highlighted it and clicked the little grey guy and voila! A link to your blog.

There's probably html to do it too, but I'm not quite there yet

Honestly this is *exactly* how I feel today and about tumblr in general. I've not logged on today and it feels kinda nice?? But at the same time, there really is nothing that compares to tumblr and I *like* the overall experience it offers. Shame really.

actually I think someone did cost estimates that it would cost like 5 million dollars so i'm not so far off there.

Fandom has lost enough history and enough material from living in other people's spaces. I for one am Very Goddamn Done with THAT bullshit.

Every time I stumble across a post that's blocked because it's been flagged as mature, I die inside. They're just *gone* and I hate that feeling. I also very much hate the feeling that I've been kicked into the kiddie pool. The humor is still there and the friends I've made are still there, and there's plenty of content, but something has definitely died.
